Ever since my childhood, a passion for justice has burned within me. From the intrigue of true crime to the profound impact of witnessing one person's radical act of surrender shaping the world, I've been drawn to the pursuit of righteousness in both big and small ways. During my university years, this desire manifested into a longing for tangible change within the justice system.
Last year, I felt a profound calling from God to champion the cause of those unable to fight for themselves. Specifically, my heart was stirred for the women and children worldwide who find themselves trapped in situations beyond their control. Whether it's the scourge of human trafficking, the insidious grip of the pornography industry, the darkness of red-light districts, or the heartbreaking loss of innocent lives through abortion, I knew I couldn't remain idle.
Consider these staggering statistics:
Human trafficking is a $150 billion industry.
Shockingly, the average age of first exposure to pornography among men is just 12 years old.
Each day, approximately 1,000 prostitutes ply their trade in Amsterdam's Red Light Districts, with a staggering 39% afflicted by sexually transmitted diseases. Moreover, around 120 women are annually lured back into prostitution due to a lack of alternative opportunities.
In 2018, Florida documented all abortions within its borders, revealing that over 95% of these procedures were carried out for "no reason" or "social and economic reasons".
These statistics are just the tip of the iceberg. Our world is engulfed in a crisis of innocence, and my soul resonates with a deep sense of purpose to confront these injustices head-on. Recently, during prayer, a dear friend shared a scripture with me from Micah 6:8: "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
This verse encapsulates the very essence of my calling. It's a call for a generation willing to stand in the gap for the vulnerable and voiceless. I am committed to answering that call, and I plan to further equip myself by returning to university. Together, let's embark on this journey of advocacy and change, fueled by a passion for justice and guided by humility before our God.
